What is Partial Discharge?

About PD Solutions
Partial Discharge (PD) is a localized electrical discharge that only partially bridges the insulation (solid, oil, gas etc.) between conductors and which can or cannot occur adjacent to a conductor. (IEC 60270)

A breakdown or discharge at insulation areas that are not connected between conductors. This is a partial deterioration of the insulation system. Generally, PDs are caused by an uneven electric field, heterogeneity or contamination in the insulation. Local electric stress concentration is higher than the critical point which causes PD.

Deterioration in an equipment's insulation allows PD to occur. Using sensors and analyzers to detect PD in equipment allows detection of deterioration before damage would occur.

Why Test for Partial Discharge?

PD activity is an indication of an incipient fault in HV insulation and is widely regarded as the best "early warning" indicator of the deterioration of aged insulation. Early detection helps prevent catastrophic failures and extend equipment lifespan.

When to Test for Partial Discharge?

PD testing should be performed during commissioning of new equipment, as part of routine preventive maintenance schedules, after repair or refurbishment, and whenever abnormal equipment behavior is detected.

What We Offer

Our Services

We offer a wide range of services which are provided for a variety of equipment.

Online PD Testing

Online PD Testing

Service under normal working conditions without equipment shutdown. No need to isolate the circuit — tests are non-invasive. Sensors include HFCT, UHF, AE, AA, TEV, etc.

Offline PD Testing

Offline PD Testing

Uses standards and technology proven through research to produce reliable data interpretation. Higher sensitivity compared to online testing for precise diagnostics.

PD Monitoring System — DIMRUS CDM-45 Cables Diagnostics Monitor

PD Monitoring System

Full PD monitoring system running on web-based UI/SCADA alarm. Captures PD trends to failure over time. Can be installed temporarily or permanently.

PD Training

PD Training

Taught by professional engineers with verified certifications and real-world experience. Guaranteed after-sales service and free training courses for all customers.

Consultation and Support — HVPD field testing at ABB switchgear

Consultation & Support

Expert consultation, customized solutions, and after-sales technical support from planning through execution to follow-up, ensuring the highest level of customer satisfaction.

Our Paperwork

Research & Publications

Our company's commitment extends beyond providing partial discharge testing services; to maintain our competitive advantage, we actively engage in research as well. This dedication has resulted in the publication of original technical papers on partial discharge, authored by our engineering staff.

Consequently, our customers benefit from both exceptional service and our engineers' commitment to developing solutions for complex challenges.

Tools of the Trade
